Jati Sidhu, MP for Mission–Matsqui–Fraser Canyon, visited École Mission Senior Secondary School this week, as part of UNICEF Canada’s “Bring Your MP to School Day” initiative.

Sidhu spoke about his work and fielded questions from Ed Sward’s Grade 11 Social Studies Honours class for just under an hour.

“‘Bring your MP to School Day’ is an opportunity for our younger citizens and their member of parliament to engage in dialogue and learn a little from each other,” said Sidhu.

“Engaging with children and youth in this riding is a passion of my office, and I hope days such as these help inform these students while also advancing civic education.”

The event commemorates National Child Day and ensure that young people’s voices, concerns and interests enjoy meaningful attention from Parliamentarians.

Sidhu said he was impressed at the quality and range of students’ questions, which included immigration, climate change, and the government’s success in growing the middle class.

“I want to thank the school and especially Mr. Sward for inviting me. He’s a great teacher, and his passion is obviously contagious. I predict at least one or two of these students might have their name on a ballot someday,” said Sidhu.
