South Okanagan — West Kootenay MP Richard Cannings announced he is kicking-off his re-election campaign by hosting, Shindig in the Garden.
On Aug. 29, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh will join Cannings at Linden Gardens in Kaleden from 7 to 9 p.m.
According to a media release, the NDP leader’s last two visits to Penticton have drawn large crowds. The event, which costs $20, will have bubbly and desserts. Cannings will even be serenading visitors by playing the fiddle with his neighbourhood jam band.

“Just as I prefer a bike tour over a campaign convoy, a garden campaign launch suits me quite well,” Cannings said in the news release. “Jagmeet and I are looking forward to mixing in a bit of music with the roll out of our platform, ‘A New Deal for People.'”
Cannings announced he is launching a campaign with enviromental protection front and centre. As a biologist, Cannings is recognized for his lifelong work to protect B.C.’s environment.
Other key facets of the NDP platform to be discussed next Thursday include expand Canada’s health care system to include, not just pharmacare, but mental, dental, eye and hearing coverage for all citizens and put a price cap on cellphone and internet bills, the release states.
