MSAR rescues injured hiker

Volunteers were sent out Sept. 16 to Mt. Robie Reid

A female hiker struck by boulders on Mt. Robie Reid was lifted off the mountain via helicopter by Mission Search and Rescue (MSAR) volunteers Sept. 16.

According to John Lemond, MSAR spokesperson, the call came in around 4:30 p.m. and searchers were in the air within a half-hour.

A group of six climbers were descending the mountain — which is north of Mission, west of Stave Lake — when falling boulders “knocked around” the female, said Lemond.

Her climbing partners were able to help her get to a “more level platform” at around the 1,600 metro mark, where the helicopter was able to land. Once she was aboard, the aircraft touched down at Stave Falls dam where an ambulance was waiting to take her to the hospital.
