Oceanside RCMP say three thefts likely occurred on same night

Multiple businesses on Resort Drive in Parksville have reported Christmas decorations stolen from their holiday displays.

Seven lightup reindeer were reported stolen on Nov. 29, from a business in the 1000 block of Resort Drive. The missing reindeer are approximately four feet long by three feet tall.

Police responded to another report of a theft of a carousel horse with lights from the front lawn of Sunrise Ridge Resort on Resort Drive.

Robynne Shaw posted a photo of the carousel on their Facebook page and wrote, “If you stole this and other decorations last night from the resorts along Resort Drive (this was at Sunrise Ridge) or you know who did, please, please return them. The resorts spend a lot of money and put in hours and hours of work to do light displays for the community to enjoy. Show us some Christmas Spirit and return them. Bring them in the dark, just like you took them. Please renew our faith in humanity.”

A large blow-up snowman decoration also went missing from Ocean Trails Resort.

Cpl. Jesse Foreman with the Oceanside RCMP said theft of Christmas decorations is typically a rare occurrence.

“There have been only three (thefts) this year, all of which were from the resorts on Resort Drive,” Foreman said. “It would appear to be the same suspect as all the thefts occurred over the evening of Nov. 28. As far as I know, nothing as of this point has been recovered.”

Paul Drummond, Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort & Conference Centre general manager, said the Tigh-Na-Mara has experienced holiday decoration theft in the past, but so far, not this year.

“Last couple of years we’ve lost stuff. It’s just a shame,” Drummond said.
