Multiple shots fired in Surrey

RCMP investigating after gunfire reported near 62 Avenue and 142 Street.

Surrey RCMP are investigating after multiple gunshots were fired Saturday evening.

Police received several 911 calls reporting shots fired in the area of 62 Avenue and 142 Street just before 6:30 p.m. Witnesses on scene told police it appeared that occupants from one vehicle were shooting at another; two vehicles then fled from the area.

According to an RCMP release, additional shell casings were found two blocks away, near 64 Avenue. An abandoned white Ford pickup truck with bullet holes was also found nearby.

Police were on scene for several hours Saturday night canvassing the area and speaking to witnesses. Though the investigation is in the early stages, police say it appears to be a targeted incident.

It’s the latest in a string of shots fired reports in Newton over the last two years. It’s unclear whether this incident is related to the previous ones, many of which are believed to be connected to a low-level dial-a-dope drug operation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers, at 1-800-222-8477.
