Michelle Mungall, Nelson-Creston MLA and the Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources, announced Monday that she and her husband are expecting a new addition to their family.
“Zak and I are very happy to announce our family will be expanding when we welcome our first child in July,” said Mungall. “We are incredibly excited and looking forward to becoming parents.”
Mungall, 40, plans to take six weeks leave when the baby is born in mid-to-late July, after which she will resume her ministerial duties before the fall Legislative Session. Mungall’s husband Zak Matieschyn will take a 12-month parental leave from his practice as a family nurse practitioner.
“During our baby’s first year, we’ll be travelling together as a family and settling into our new life with a little one,” said Minister Mungall. “Parenthood is a life-long adventure so many people take, and words cannot express our joy at joining in on that adventure.”
Michelle Mungall, a former Nelson city councillor, was first elected MLA for Nelson-Creston in 2009, and re-elected in 2013 and 2017. She was sworn in as Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources in July 2017.
