Figures released by Elections BC this week show during last November’s municipal election, mayoral candidate and former city councillor Surinderpal Rathor spent the most on the campaign.
Rathor’s total expenses for the election were $18,225, according to the Elections BC website. He also received the most in contributions, garnering $13,075 from individuals, $3,000 from corporations and $2,000 from trade unions.
Next in spending was Mayor Walt Cobb at $8,100, councillor Scott Nelson at $7,039, and former mayor Kerry Cook $6,845.
In contributions, Cobb received $2,450 from individuals, $4,550 from corporations and $100 from unincorporated businesses.
Cook gathered $3,545 from individuals and $3,300 from corporations, while Nelson’s contributions of $7,290 all came from corporations.
John Bjornstrom who ran for mayor has not submitted his expenses, which Elections BC notes is subject to a fine of $500.
Other councillor candidate spending included Ivan Bonnell $1,844, Peter Bowman $724, Marnie Brenner $146, Sue Lachance $1,580, Wayne Lucier $1673, Bobbie Jo Macnair $1,598, Tovi Pare $453, Jason Ryll $2,900, Craig Smith $2,232, Laurie Walters $3,736 and Sue Zacharias $2,540.
