Nanaimo driver sentenced after motor vehicle incident that killed teen last year

Brandon Geoffrey Murdoch fined and prohibited from driving for two years

A driver who hit and killed a teen with his vehicle last year was sentenced in provincial court in Nanaimo on Monday.

Brandon Geoffrey Murdoch faced a charge of driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention. The charge stemmed from an incident at the intersection of Hammond Bay Road and Brigantine and Ventura drives March 6, 2019, when Murdoch’s vehicle struck a 17-year-old Dover Bay student who was crossing Hammond Bay Road in the intersection’s crosswalk.

The victim died in hospital a week later.

Murdoch was ordered to pay a $2,000 fine, a $300 victim surcharge fee and was handed a two-year-driving prohibition.
