Nanaimo families can book holiday ice time at Frank Crane Arena

COVID-19 precautions in effect during 11 days of holiday-season skating

Families who want to go ice skating over the holidays will be wise to book ice time early.

The City of Nanaimo’s Parks Recreation and Culture department has scheduled 11 days of holiday skating at Frank Crane Arena from Monday, Dec. 21, to Jan. 1 for just $2 per skating session.

The low admission price comes thanks to “community and business sponsors who want to say ‘thank you’ to Nanaimo citizens and bring some affordable fun to families, according to a city press release.

The skating sessions will follow COVID-19 protocols, which includes a requirement to pre-register for skating sessions up to 72 hours in advance to maintain a limit of 40 participants per session to allow for social distancing.

“We are excited to be able to offer 11 days of a special holiday skating session where admission is only $2 per session for everyone,” said Gary Paterson, city areas recreation coordinator, in a press release. “We are grateful to our many sponsors who have made this possible and who have committed to bringing some affordable fun to Nanaimo’s citizens over the holiday season.”

Skating sessions can be booked by calling 250-756-5200, by visiting one of Nanaimo’s recreation centres, or online at https://cnan.ca/2DU0LXS.
