Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools reports COVID-19 exposure at Cedar Elementary

School district says Island Health has completed contact tracing

Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools is reporting another COVID-19 exposure, this time at a south-end school.

According to a social media post, Cedar Elementary School has experienced an exposure with potential dates Feb. 22 and 23. Island Health has completed contact tracing, the school district said.

Along with Cedar Elementary, Dover Bay Secondary, Ladysmith Secondary and Uplands Park, McGirr and Mountain View elementary schools are district school’s listed on Island Health’s exposure list.

Scott Saywell, district superintendent and CEO told trustees at their Feb. 24 board meeting that that Mountain View is expected to be removed from the list on March 2 and Ladysmith Secondary on March 4, if there aren’t any further exposure incidents.

The district recently announced that it has been selected as a lead district for a regional COVID-19 rapid response team.

Aspengrove School, and independent school in Lantzville, is also listed on the exposure list.
