Police shut down the Nanaimo Parkway to collar the suspect of an armed robbery Tuesday.

The robbery happened shortly before noon when a man, armed with a handgun, walked into the Domino’s Pizza at 1925 Bowen Rd. and demanded cash from the employees.

He was handed an undisclosed amount of cash before he fled in a grey truck.

The restaurant’s employees gave police a description of the truck and its licence plate number.

Moments later, police were called about a truck, matching the description of the robbery suspect’s, being driven erratically on the Nanaimo Parkway. Mounties pulled the truck over on near Northfield Road and shut down the highway for about five minutes while they arrested a 21-year-old man from the Lower Mainland.

Police also found a realistic imitation handgun during the arrest.

The suspect is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in Nanaimo provincial court Wednesday (April 27).

Sgt. Sheryl Armstrong, Nanaimo RCMP spokeswoman, said no one was injured in the robbery or subsequent arrest.
