Nanaimo Mounties hope to get foot in the door in investigation

Key tips from public will likely crack case of mystery doors

Nanaimo Mounties were hoping for an open-and-shut case, but their efforts to find the owner of four found doors will likely hinge on tips from the public.

According to police, Nanaimo RCMP opened their investigation Sunday after a man reported he’d found four doors resting next to a building in the 100 block of Bastion Street.

Officers attended and took possession of the doors, which apparently hadn’t been in the location they were spotted for very long and might have come from a nearby construction site.

So far, no one has come knocking to retrieve their doors, which has left the investigation in a bit of a jamb.

Three of the four doors are white and one is green. Three are standard-size while the fourth is a bi-fold closet door.

“If you’re feeling a bit of a draft, we may just have the solution to that and we prefer you have the doors instead of us because they take up a lot of space,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman.

To claim the doors, call 250-754-2345 and refer to file number 2019-38177.
