Nanaimo office pool wins big

NANAIMO - Coworkers at Vancouver Island University win $500,000 in lottery.

Sometimes saying yes can pay off.

That was quite literally the case for Nanaimo’s Linda Schmidt when she said yes to the Extra when purchasing a lottery ticket for her office pool.

That decision paid dividends. In fact, it paid her and the 23 other office pool members a total of $500,000, as they were winners in the Feb. 24 Lotto 6/49 draw.

“I was thinking of saying no to the Extra but I’m glad I didn’t,” Schmidt said in a press release. “I couldn’t believe it when I checked the ticket at the store and saw that we won.”

The group of 24 are employed at Vancouver Island University and plan to continue purchasing lotto tickets.

The winning ticket was sold at Country Grocer on Bowen Road.
