Reports of shots fired south of Nanaimo last night turned out to be a false alarm, say police.
According to a Nanaimo RCMP press release, numerous police vehicles responded to a report of several shots being fired about 7 p.m. Wednesday night at a property on Clifford Road. Officers closed off the immediate area to the public and after a short period of time, were able to make contact with residents.
Investigators eventually discovered that the sound of the gunfire was caused by a paintball gun, said the press release. No other weapons were found on site and police determined the gun was being used in a safe and responsible manner and therefore did not confiscate the gun, nor file charges.
