Nanaimo RCMP are looking for the driver of a pickup truck involved in a hit-and-run collision.
According to police, the incident happened at about noon Tuesday on Wellington Road, near the Jordan Avenue intersection, when a blue 1997 Ford F-150 pickup collided head-on with a white 2014 Ford F-150 that was travelling southbound on Wellington Road.
“The [victim] was going southbound and the suspect blue F-150, going northbound, crashes into the front of him,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman.
The driver of the white Ford was shaken, but not injured.
The woman driving the blue Ford is alleged to have stayed at the scene for a few moments before she fled the area.
An RCMP police dog services team responded to the scene, but was not able to locate the suspect.
“The suspect vehicle had no [licence] plates and it looks like the ignition was jammed with a screwdriver to get it started … Evidence found at the scene led investigators to a house in central Nanaimo,” O’Brien said. “The occupant was less than co-operative with our members, so we’re looking for anybody with information.”
The suspect driver is described as Caucasian, heavy-set and was wearing a red personal protection mask.
Anyone with information about the collision or the suspect driver is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file No. 2020-43188.
