The Nanaimo RCMP is asking for the public’s help to find the driver of a van involved in a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident.
Police and B.C. Ambulance responded to the incident that happened at about 3:20 p.m. Jan. 3 in the parking lot of the Petro Canada gas station at 4320 Uplands Dr.
Investigators spoke with an injured 53-year-old female driver and an independent witness. Both said the injured female driver had opened her driver’s-side door and was exiting her vehicle when the suspect vehicle backed up, pinning the victim’s arm between the door post and frame of her vehicle. Several people yelled for the driver to stop, but she allegedly drove away. The suspect van was last seen driving northbound on Uplands Drive towards Turner Road.
The driver who was struck by the van was sent to local hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect driver was described as an elderly, heavy-set white female who had white hair with dark streaks. She was driving a dark grey van with no hubcaps on the back wheels and a handicap sign hanging in the front window.
Anyone with information about the identity of the driver or the vehicle involved is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
