Nanaimo RCMP, city and ICBC representatives performed a sidewalk promotion to raise pedestrian safety awareness.
The two-hour long event happened at the intersection of Victoria Crescent, Albert and Wallace streets from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. when people passing by on foot were detained by police just long enough to snap reflective arm bands on their wrists and wish them a nice day.
People also received flyers from ICBC listing tips on how to stay safe while walking on dark winter streets and reflective key chain tags that can be attached to clothing zippers or shoelace eyelets.
The event was part of the agencies’ ongoing Be Safe Be Seen campaign.
