A new agreement with the Union of B.C. Municipalities will boost Nanaimo’s funding share by $1.3 million this year.
Nanaimo city council agreed to a deal with the Union of B.C. Municipalities to receive money from the Community Works Fund. The pot gives municipalities guaranteed annual funding for infrastructure projects, like Nanaimo’s new water treatment plant.
Under the new agreement, the city will see a total of $18 million over the next five years, including $3.4 million for 2014-15 The dollars are up from the $2.2 million the city received last year.
