The top director of the Naramata Centre Society claims a slip on an unmarked wet floor at the Kelowna General Hospital left him with injuries, including a broken femur and a torn tendon.
Douglas Woollard, chair of the Naramata Centre Society’s board of directors, filed a lawsuit this week against the Interior Health Authority seeking relief from injuries he claims he sustained at the hospital on July 16, 2016.
In his lawsuit, Woollard claims he was walking toward a doorway in the hospital to visit a family member when he slipped on an unmarked section of the floor that had recently been cleaned.
As a result of the fall, Woollard claims injuries, including dislocation and fracture in his left knee, a fracture in his femur and tearing of a tendon in his left knee.
He also claims anxiety, sleep disturbance and injury to the lumbar spine in the suit.
Woollard, now retired, was the former CEO of Community Living B.C., and since retirement has taken on a role with the Naramata Centre Society. He had also been the chair of the board between 2006 and 2009, according to the society’s website.
Woollard claims negligence on the part of the hospital, and thereby Interior Health.
It is unclear what Woollard is seeking, but as a B.C. Supreme Court filing, it is a claim for over $35,000.
