Naxaxalhts’l Honoured At Convocation

Post-Convocation procession honours interpreter of Coast Salish Culture at the University of Victoria.

NDP MLA John Horgan and UVIC President David Turpin and others joined with Naxaxalhts’l (Albert “Sonny” McHalsie) in a ceremonial walk from the University Centre to the First People’s House on the University of Victoria campus Friday morning. The men were taking part in a post-Convocation Ceremonial Procession in honour of honourary degree recipient Naxaxalhts’l who is a leading interpreter of Coast Salish culture. This was the first time such a procession has been held.
