The NDP candidate for Maple Ridge-Mission has received the official approval to run in the May 9 provincial election.

Bob D’Eith, a Maple Ridge entertainment lawyer, was acclaimed at a nomination meeting on Jan. 28. He had been the only candidate after the Dec. 30 deadline for nominating candidates.

D’Eith will be trying to unseat Liberal incumbent Marc Dalton, who’s seeking a third term as MLA. Peter Tam, a data systems analyst, is running for the B.C. Green party in the same riding.

D’Eith said he’s witnessed first-hand how the decisions of the Liberal Christy Clark government are making it harder and harder for people to live here and he’s ready to do something about it.

“Christy Clark isn’t working for you,” D’Eith said. “Our costs are going up while our schools and health-care are being cut. Housing is becoming more and more unaffordable. Every day people are paying more and getting less.”

Dalton, though, said that the Liberals haven’t cut health care or education spending.

Tam said that  the government needs to do better on education, housing, transportation and climate change.

“As a Green MLA, I can meet these community challenges with out-of-the-box thinking, he said on his website.

• B.C. Green Party leader Andrew Weaver will join Tam at the ACT in Maple Ridge on Thursday, 6-8 p.m. This free event will feature live music and family activities.
