Police say it was sheer luck that no one was injured Friday, when a Mazda 3 crashed through the front windows of the White Rock TD Canada Trust.
It’s “just (by) the grace of God (that no one) got hit or killed,” Const. Chantal Sears said from the scene at Central Plaza, located at Johnston Road and North Bluff Road.
Sears said the mishap occurred shortly after noon, as the driver of the Mazda was manoeuvering into a parking spot, and accidentally accelerated instead of braking. The car just missed a man who was on the sidewalk waiting to get into his own car, Sears said.
The Mazda came to rest partially inside the office of one of the bank managers.
A second manager, Anu Bakshi, said she was in another office when she “heard the sound of glass breaking.
“I didn’t think it would be a car,” Bakshi said.
“We’re so glad there was no one around, no one was hurt.”
The bank remains open for business.
