A quick-acting neighbour used a bucket and water to douse an electrical fire in a Columbia Park home on Dec. 11.
The fire broke out around 11 a.m. in a residence in the 300-block of Pearkes Drive. The basement of the home received medium smoke damage in the incident.
Fire Chief Rob Girard said the man’s actions likely prevented significant damage.
“This was a great save due to the quick actions of the neighbour, who, incidentally, is a relative of the home owners,” Girard said. “I am glad he was home otherwise this would have been a much different outcome, especially before Christmas.”
The man received treatment for smoke inhalation.
There were no injuries to any of the 24 fire personnel who attended.
The fire department is investigating the cause of the fire.
The fire chief didn’t immediately have the name of the neighbour who saved the day.
