The Newcastle and Brechin Neighbourhood Plan was quietly adopted in to the Official Community Plan Monday by Nanaimo city council after two years of dedicated work by residents and city staff.
The plan development included contentious debate over waterfront high rises, which city council addressed by allowing a four-storey base height with development proposals higher than four storeys to be considered on a case-by-case basis.
The plan also addresses neighbourhood population densities as well as components such as pedestrian walkways, bike lanes, traffic calming.
