A joint initiative by the Nelson Police Department and RCMP to find impaired drivers led to seven people removed from the road over the weekend.
Between 200 and 300 drivers were checked by police over the weekend, according to a Monday release from West Kootenay Traffic Services.
The drivers who were caught lost their licences for anywhere from three to 90 days, and had vehicles impounded for up to 30 days, depending on the degree of impairment.
“Police have extensive training and resources at their disposal to apprehend drivers impaired by any substance and frequently work together to make to make the roads safe,” said Sgt. Chad Badry in a statement.
“Ultimately, we want everyone to get home safely. Choosing to drive under the influence of anything impairing your ability to operate a vehicle is a horrible choice that is entirely preventable.”
