Sunday afternoon’s rain storm has compounded the problems around the Lakeside Park playing fields, turning the high traffic area into a swamp.
Kootenay Lake hit its highest level since 1974 on Monday, causing the banks at several locations around the playing fields to be breached. Access to the parking lot adjacent to the mall has been closed and many areas are not passable.
The forecast calls for 80 per cent chance of thundershowers today. Starting Wednesday a system is expected that will dry the area up. Temperatures are expected to rise for the rest of the week and reach the lower 30s by Saturday.
