I’d like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
2018 for me is ending with much to learn and a strong sense of responsibility looking to the year to come. November and these first couple of weeks of December have been a whirlwind of information, documentation and expectations colliding with circumstance. I’ve been working hard to find a means to reach everyone consistently, accessibly and use local gathering areas and social media appropriately to inform people where and when I’m going or where I have been. I’ve started a Facebook page called “Area G Connected,” met at the Hedley Community Club and senior’s center for coffee, been for coffee and then for a breakfast at the SunCatchers Co-op. After being on the hunt for a good spot to meet those in Olalla and Rural Keremeos I’ve decided to meet regularly at the Grist mill, I’ll bring the coffee and Chris will open the doors in the New Year.

The first test of my metal in these the beginning weeks of my four-year term as Area G’s representative was to provide support for Hedley and their Improvement District as they struggled with a “Do Not Consume” order on their water system post contamination. I kept in touch with the community champions, the Upper Similkameen Band and emergency services while communicating to the RDOS to be able to increase support though BC emergency response management system (BCERMS) if the crisis became worst and thankfully the water was tested clear for consumption and Interior Health gave the all clear to the HID Monday the 17th of December.
In conclusion, I’m just at the beginning, wet behind the ears and looking forward to 2019. Again, I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season with family and friends from my family to yours.
