New committees will advise Princeton council on bylaws and the arts

Princeton bylaws are getting a review.

A new committee was struck Monday night at council’s regular meeting and charged with facilitating public input on current bylaws.

Mayor Spencer Coyne said parking and signage bylaws are two examples of legislation that need a thorough examination, but added all bylaws should eventually be studied.

The terms of reference for the Bylaw Review Advisory Committee state the body will recommend each bylaw to be either kept, amended, repealed or replaced.

The committee will include representatives from business, industry, the Chamber of Commerce and the seniors’ community, as well as members at large and one member of council.

Also Monday council established a committee to advise on arts, culture and heritage.

Its mandate is to develop and recommend policies, provide community perspective on related issues, and promote awareness and support of local artistic talent, heritage and archival preservation.

The committee will consist of arts council members, representatives from the Princeton Museum, Granite Creek Preservation Society, Princeton Traditional Music Society, the local school district, the Upper Similkameen Indian Band and Vermilion Forks Metis Association, members at large and two members of council.
