Comox officially has a new mayor, as former mayor Paul Ives officially administered the oath of office to Russ Arnott.
In addition to Arnott, Ives, acting as a commission for taking affidavits for B.C., administered the oaths for Couns. Alex Bissinger, Ken Grant, Stephanie McGowan, Pat McKenna, Nicole Minions and Maureen Swift Wednesday afternoon as part of a special ceremony in front of a packed council chamber filled with family and friends.
Arnott spoke to the crowd in his inaugural address and thanked retiring Couns. Marg Grant, Barbara Price and Hugh MacKinnon along with former Mayor Paul Ives for their dedication and commitment to Comox for many years.
He also referred to his plan of transparency and open communications.
“You are the leaders in our community and we work for the residents and businesses of Comox. Community and respect between us at this table and those in our community is key.”
He added over the four-year term, council will ensure the official community plan keeps the Town on the path to the future.
“We will review our transportation plan; we will continue the enhancements and vitalization to our Marina Park and downtown area and we will ensure we stay open for business opportunities that will enhance the charm of Comox,” he said.
The next regular meeting of council is set for Nov. 21 at 5:30 p.m. at Comox council chambers, located at 1801B Beaufort Ave.
