Penticton, Oliver, Summerland top charts for most vehicle crashes in 2019

Newly released crash reports by ICBC give insight to the most frequented areas for motor-vehicle accidents, broken down by city. In total, there were 4,547 crashes in Penticton, Oliver, Summerland, Princeton, Osoyoos, Keremeos, Okanagan Falls, Kaleden and Cawston, in 2019.

The following is a list of these cities, in order from highest number of incidents to lowest, with the five most frequented streets for each.

Penticton

In Penticton, there were 2,296 motor-vehicle incidents in 2019. Of these, 1,938 resulted in vehicle damage only, and 358 led to injury or fatality. The five streets with the highest number of motor-vehicle collsions last year were:

  • Main Street – 459
  • Skaha Lake Road – 138
  • Highway 97 – 137
  • Carmi Avenue – 80
  • Government Street – 52

Eckhardt Avenue West, Green Avenue West and Martin Street were close behind with 51, 46 and 46 respectively.

Oliver

In Oliver, there were 502 motor-vehicle incidents last year. Of these, 439 were property damage only, while 63 resulted in either injury or fatality. The five roadways with the most incidents were:

  • Highway 97 – 146
  • Main Street – 81
  • McKinney Road – 29
  • Fairview Road – 21
  • Tucelnuit Drive – 16

Black Sage Road was close behind at 14.

Summerland

In Summerland, there were 474 motor-vehicle incidents in 2019. Of these, 400 were vehicle damage only, while 74 resulted in injury or fatality. The top five most frequented roadways for motor vehicle accidents were:

  • Highway 97 – 127
  • Prairie Valley Road – 41
  • Victoria Road North – 29
  • Rosedale Avenue 16
  • Giants Head Road – 14

Jubilee Road West, Victoria Road South and Main Street were close behind with 13, 13, and 12 respectively.

Princeton

There were 406 motor-vehicle incidents last year in Princeton. Of these, 333 were property damage only, and 73 resulted in injury or fatality. The top five roadways with the most collisions were:

  • Highway 3 – 163
  • Highway 5A – 36
  • Bridge Street – 35
  • Princeton-Summerland Road – 23
  • Copper Mountain Road – 12

Old Hedley Road was close behind, also with 12.

Osoyoos

In Osoyoos, there were 401 motor-vehicle incidents in 2019. Of these, 356 resulted in property damage only, while 45 resulted in injury or fatality. The top five streets with the most incidents were:

  • Highway 3 – 93
  • Main Street – 59
  • Highway 97 – 58
  • Lakeshore Drive – 24
  • Cottonwood Drive – 14

Keremeos

Last year in Keremeos there were 178 motor-vehicle incidents, the majority of which happened on Highway 3. Of these, 333 were vehicle damage only, while 73 resulted in either injury or fatality. The top five roadways with the most incidents were:

  • Highway 3 – 77
  • Highway 3A – 23
  • 7th Avenue – 16
  • Unknown – 7
  • Ashnola Road – 5

Middle and Upper Bench Road were both close behind with 4 each.

In Okanagan Falls, there were 136 incidents. The majorty of these (61) took place on Highway 97, and Eastside Road (13).

Kaleden saw 85 incidents last year, the majority of which took place on Highway 97 (24), Highway 3A (21) or White Lake Road (11).

There were 69 motor-vehicle incidents in Cawston last year, the majorty of which (42) happened on Highway 3.
