Show your support for Canada’s 150th birthday this year — and for Sidney’s efforts to celebrate it in style.
Kenny Podmore, a former town councillor and Sidney’s current town crier, has designed new licence plate holders, denoting Sidney’s celebration of the country’s 150th birthday, on July 1, 2017. Podmore, alongside the Town of Sidney’s Paula Kully, is organizing a series of events to mark the occasion.
“All of the money raised (through sales of the license plate holders) will go towards the purchase of the Board Dog statue.”
The licence plate holders can be purchased at Sidney Town Hall and from Podmore himself by calling 250-655-4631.
The sculpture has been on Sidney’s waterfront for years. Podmore said they hope to buy it from the artist and put it on permanent display at the Town’s new skateboard park, being built this year. It’s one of the many projects and activities Sidney is planning for this year.
To that end, they are also looking for volunteers. An information session Tuesday night (Feb. 7) drew 15 people, said Kully. Another meeting to find additional volunteers has been planned for March 14 at 6 p.m. in the Arbutus Room at the Town Hall.
