New refillery comes to Fernie in the new year

The lifestyle shop, Drift and Sonder, will offer thoughtful goods for the conscious and the curious

Fernie’s newest refillery and lifestyle shop, Drift and Sonder, is set to open their doors on Fernie’s Second Avenue this upcoming January.

The enterprise is headed by sister duo, Aysha and Joanna Haines, who describe the upcoming business as a shop for the conscious and the curious, selling products that encourage customers to buy less, choose well and make it last.

“What we’re trying to do is encourage a lower footprint lifestyle,” said Aysha.

“We’re not zero waste – we are more for the people who realize they want to make some changes, but also want to have things that look beautiful and spark joy.”

According to Aysha, the shop will cater to those already well-versed in living sustainably, as well as those who are just beginning to dive into the lifestyle.

Geared towards both men and women, the shop will offer a variety of home and personal care goods, along with a refillery for locals to stock up on household cleaning products, shampoos, soaps, lotions, men’s grooming products, and of course hand sanitizer.

Whenever possible, the shop will source their products from BC and Alberta, however Haines said that some items will be sourced from further afield in an effort to provide quality products to their customers

“One of our principals is to float on the tide, but with purpose – to see where you’re going and when you get there to experience as fully as possible where you are and what’s around you.”

While opening a new business in the midst of a worldwide pandemic might sound foolhardy, Haines said there was an opportunity to offer the community a highly sought-after service.

“It’s no longer bleeding edge, the training has happened, people are ready or it,” said Haines.

“We see ourselves straddling that line between refillery products for our local residents but also some lovely products that our visitors would like to buy.”

In an effort to prioritize contact-less shopping, Drift and Sonder will offer e-commerce options, along with curb-side pickup and delivery services within the first few months of opening.

The shop will be located in Fernie’s downtown at 672 D Second Avenue.
