The provincial government has made changes to the Motor Vehicle Act that affect motorcyles. The changes, which took effect June 1, were made in an effort to improve motorcycle safety, say RCMP. Provincial statistics show that the number of people who die in motorcycle accidents has been going up. While only 3 percent of insured vehicles are motorcycles, they account for 10 percent of roadway fatalities. The new rules require drivers and passengers to wear proper helmets and be properly seated on the motorcycle.
