New school proposed in Lake Country

The Central Okanagan School District has a tentative agreement to purchase the Aspen Grove Golf Course

There could eventually be a new school in Lake Country.

The Central Okanagan School District has a tentative agreement to purchase the Aspen Grove Golf Course for a future middle school site. The 18-acre site is located beside George Elliot Secondary School.

The property is currently zoned to support the future planned playfields but will require approval of the Agricultural Land Commission to use the land for the school district’s intended purposes.

“The continued growth in the District of Lake Country has resulted in a need for additional educational facilities in the area,” states a school district release.

“A new 500 student middle school in the District of Lake Country is fourth from the top on the list of immediate capital needs identified by the school district.”

Construction of the middle school is not expected to occur for at least three years and Ministry of Education funding must still be approved.

Aspen Grove Golf Course will lease back the property to maintain existing facilities.
