CHURCH HELPS DUITS
Pastor Bruce Wilcox says folks who want to help the Duits family on the loss of their home can provide tax-deductible financial assistance.
People can send cheques to the Duits family through the Cariboo Presbyterian Church at PO Box 156; Lac la Hache, B.C.; V0K 1TO.
Wilcox says cheques should be made out to the Cariboo Presbyterian Church, with an attached note designating it for the Duits family.
“We are not supposed to write “for the Duits” on the “memo” line of the cheque itself. It has something to do with Canada Revenue Agency rules, Wilcox explains.
GRANT FOR DISTRICT
Local municipal governments throughout British Columbia, including 100 Mile House, will share close to $108 million to meet local needs.
The funding can be used for more policing, restorative justice, increased community safety initiatives, infrastructure, administrative support and service delivery priorities.
The money arrives every year for the annual formula funding to all community governments in the province.
The District of 100 Mile House received $354,787.
The District recognizes it as base funding (general revenue) that reduces the revenue required from taxation.
POSTAL WORKERS PROTEST
Unionized postal workers protested in front of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Montreal office on Aug. 6 in an effort to convince the Prime Minister to push the negotiations with Canada Post forward.
A Canadian Union of Postal Workers official says talks with the Crown corporation remain stalled on the key issues of pensions and wage parity.
The two sides have been negotiating since late 2015.
Canada Post withdrew a threat to lock out its workers on July 9 because it wanted to allow both parties to focus on negotiations.
