Break out your mittens and get your shovels ready, as a “fresh injection of arctic air” is set to hit the Island overnight and through to Friday according to a special weather statement issued by Environment Canada early this morning.

Thanks to the recent low temperatures, snow is expected to cover most of the South Coast starting tonight and continue through Friday with most areas receiving a few centimetres in accumulation by Saturday morning.
According to the statement, portions of Greater Victoria, Fraser Valley, East Vancouver Island and southern sections of Inland Vancouver Island will receive higher accumulations of snow.

And even though the snow is expected to slow down by Friday night, the cold weather doesn’t stop there as “bitterly cold outflow winds” will tear through mainland inlets and valleys says the statement.
