Northern Community Economic Development (NCED) has received nine proposals for funding for the Spring 2018 intake.
The Regional District of Nanaimo board has approved a budget of $50,000 to support economic development opportunities. The requests for funding received by the NCED committee for consideration totalled $65,628.
The groups that applied for funds are: Lighthouse Country Business Association for its Familiarization Tour; Lighthouse Country Business Association for its Deep Bay information booth; Qualicum Beach Streamkeepers Society for its Brant viewing platform; Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce for its Social Media Ninja; Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce for its Empty Spaces Tour; Community Futures Central Island for its Local Entrepreneurship Accelerator Program (LEAP); Innovation Island Technology Association for its Tech Savvy Talk & Leaders Roundtable; Central Vancouver Island Job Opportunities Building Society for its Bladerunners 2018-2019 program; and Parksville and District Chamber of Commerce for its Mid Island Tech Attraction Strategy.
The committee approved the applications of the Lighthouse Country Business Association’s Familiarization Tour ($1,200) and Deep Bay Information Booth ($4,700); Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce’s Social Media Ninja ($5,240); Qualicum Beach Streamkeepers Society’s Brant Viewing Platform ($5,324); on the condition that it include indigenous history, arts and culture; Parksville and District Chamber of Commerce Mid Island Tech Forum Strategy ($4,286); Community Futures Central Island’s Local Entrepreneurship Accelerator Program ($5,000); Innovation Island Technology Association’ Tech Savvy Talk & Leaders Roundtable ($4,250); and Central Vancouver Island Job Opportunities Building Society’s Blade Runners 2018-2019 ($20,000).
The NCED grants are provided to support initiatives that would boost economic development in Electoral Areas E, F, G and H, as well as in the City of Parksville and the Town of Qualicum Beach.
