No comments at public hearing for Anderton Road rezoning application

The virtual public hearing was held on March 3 for the Comox properties

A public hearing for an application to rezone a property on Anderton Road in Comox from a single-family zone to allow a multi-family residential zone did not receive any public submissions.

The virtual public hearing was held on March 3 via Zoom for 468 and 490 Anderton Road. The application was given first and second reading by council in early February, but not without questions being raised about the high number of trees proposed to be cut down.

The proposed zoning amendment is to rezone 468 Anderton Road and a portion of 490 Anderton Road from single-family to comprehensive development 29 to facilitate the creation of 11 townhouse dwelling units and four two-family dwelling units.

The site is heavily forested, but in the staff report from the town’s planning department, it noted many trees are in poor health and will be impacted by sidewalk widening and building construction.

Part of the application included Comox Zoning Amendment Bylaw 1953 which is to authorize the Town of Comox to enter into a phased development agreement with Cameron Contracting Ltd., limiting the town’s ability to change the zoning in exchange for an amenity contribution of $21,765 to their Affordable Housing Reserve Fund.

The town accepted written submissions prior to the public meeting, which will be reviewed by council. Some residents reported technical issues logging into the meeting that prevented them from presenting an in-person submission.
