Members of the B.C. Search Dog Association (BCSDA) from Revelstoke haven’t been called for duty following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
Revelstoke-based BCSDA member Lise Tataryn says they haven’t received a call from B.C.’s Provincial Emergency Program, the authority that ultimately requests B.C.-based searchers and dispatches them.
Japanese authorities would have to first make the request for assistance at the federal level, which hasn’t come as of Sunday. Rescue teams from other countries such as the U.S., Australia and China have been requested.
If the request was made, it’s unclear if searchers from more remote centres like Revelstoke would be requested.
“I’d be willing to go,” Tataryn told the Times Review in a Sunday telephone interview.
Tataryn and fellow Revelstokian Lisa Weber were dispatched to the April, 2009 earthquake in L’Aquila, Italy.
