Organizations respond to reports of smoke

False rumours of a fire in Canoe continue to persist Thursday following reports of smoke in the area Wednesday night.

BC Wildfire service confirmed Thursday there is no fire in evidence despite a fire notification posted on their website as fire #K31199 northeast of Canoe.

A spokesperson told the Observer there were reports of smoke in the area, but investigation by BC Wildfire and the Salmon Arm fire department found no evidence of a fire, although they will continue to monitor the area.

Posts on Facebook indicate the confusion may have taken place due to dust from a gravel pit in the area being blown around and mistaken for smoke.
