The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.
The following are some of the calls Delta Police responded to in the previous week:
• Dec. 30, 11:05 a.m., 7100-block 120th St.: Complainant reported the theft of a black Cannon digital camera, camera bag and memory card from the trunk of a vehicle while parked in a parking lot. Approximately $550 in value. There was no damage to the vehicle and complainant waspositive vehicle was locked.
• Dec. 30, 1:50 p.m., 9300-block 114A St.: Report received of the theft of $200 Tom Ford sunglasses from the complainant’s unlocked vehicle, which was parked in her driveway overnight. Police attended and confirmed no damage and nothing else was taken from vehicle.
• Dec. 30, 3:24 p.m., 10800-block Brandy Dr.: Reported theft of a dark blue Trek 900 bicycle that was stolen between Dec. 24 and 25 from complainant’s backyard. The bike is valued at $1,000.
• Dec. 30, 10:34 p.m., 11900-block 88th Ave.: A traffic stop was conducted and the driver had the odour of liquor resonating from their breath. Breathalyzer resulted in “warn” and the driver was served and explained a notice of driving prohibition. They were allowed to be driven home by their spouse who arrived on scene.
• Dec. 31, 9:06 a.m., 8800-block 120th St.: A Delta police officer observed a vehicle fail to stop for a marked stop sign while leaving a store parking lot. The vehicle was followed and a traffic stop was conducted. A strong odour of liquor was emanating from the driver’s breath and the driver failed to comply with the breathalyzer demand. The driver was served a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition refusal and their vehicle towed and impounded for 30 days.
• Dec. 31, 12:59 p.m., 8100-block 120th St.: A loss prevention officer reported a shoplifter in custody after he attempted to steal $71.14 worth of product by concealing it in a bag and only paying for two jugs of milk. The shoplifter was given a six-month ban from the store.
• Dec. 31, 8:12 p.m., 9300-block Ebor Rd.: Complainant reported the theft of his Jeep Grand Cherokee from his son’s residence while it was parked on the street overnight. Both sets of keys were accounted for and nobody had been given permission to use the vehicle. It has since been recovered.
• Jan. 1, 12:36 p.m., 6100-block Sunwood Dr.: Complainant reported that sometime overnight his uninsured motor home was broken into. The motor home was recently purchased and was just in storage in his driveway. A battery was stolen valued at approximately $200 to $300.
• Jan. 2, 10:57 a.m., 11700-block 81A Ave.: Police were dispatched to a report of identity fraud. Complainant was receiving collections notice from Credit Bureau of Canada collections stating he owed $676.38 for a cell phone account, one that the complainant advised he had never created. The complainant was provided a file number and advised to gather further information from the cell provider and also to cross-check with Equifax and TransUnion credit.
• Jan. 2, 3:58 p.m., 11200-block Paterson Rd.: Complainant reported his yellow and black DeWalt skill saw and charger were stolen from his unlocked backyard shed. Approximate value is $300.
• Jan. 4, 8:18 a.m., 7300-block 120th St.: Complainant reported his wallet was stolen out of his locker. Wallet contained his B.C. drivers licence and credit cards. His Visa was then used at a business and complainant was advised to let his financial institutions know his cards had been stolen.
• Jan. 4, 10:12 a.m., 10500-block Nordel Way: While on patrol on Nordel Way, a Lexus sped past the officer at a high rate of speed. The officer confirmed via radar that the vehicle was travelling at 114 km/hr in a 60 km/hr zone. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was served a violation ticket for excessive speed and a seven-day vehicle impound. The Lexus was towed and all occupants left in a taxi.
• Jan. 4, 11:59 a.m., 11700-block 81st Ave.: Complainant reported the theft of a package from her front porch. When complainant didn’t receive the package, she contacted the business to discover that the package was marked as delivered to her front porch by UPS. Value of the clothing in the package was $160.
• Jan. 5, 1:10 p.m., 8600-block 120th St.: Police responded to a late report of the theft of a purse. Complainant left the purse on a couch in front of the business and upon returning it was gone. A Samsung Galaxy cell phone, B.C. drivers licence, social insurance card and $45 in cash were in the purse.
• Jan. 5, 4:58 p.m., 11400-block 80th Ave.: Report received of a Honda Civic stolen while parked on the street. The keys were accounted for and no one had permission to take the vehicle. Numerous work tools were left in the vehicle, worth $1,500.
