The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.
The following are some of the calls police responded to in the previous week:
• Feb. 15, 10:27 a.m., 7000-block 120th St.: Police conducted a traffic stop. The driver admitted to consuming alcohol the previous evening and police noted a distinct sweet odour of liquor present, as well as the driver having red glossy eyes. Police formed suspicion and read an approved screening device demand, with both tests resulting in “warn.” The driver was issued a three-day immediate roadside prohibition and the vehicle was picked up by her husband.
• Feb. 15, 7:59 p.m., location withheld: Complainant reported an on-going issue with his neighbours who throw garbage on the street near their vehicle. Police attended and spoke with multiple residents, advising them of the complaint. The tenants were warned for their disrespectful habit and advised of possible violation tickets as a consequence, which they stated they understood.
• Feb. 16, 11:13 a.m., 6300-block 120th St.: An employee at a nearby dental office reported that a patient was loudly arguing with the dentist and refusing to leave. Police attended and learned that the patient was unhappy with the service he had received at the office. The patient was calm on police arrival and had re-booked his procedure at a different dental office. There were no threats or assault, and the patient left.
• Feb. 18, 1:16 p.m., 11500-block 72nd Ave.: Complainant reported finding a handgun in a fenced construction site. Police attended and located the item, which was determined to be a replica pistol. The pistol appeared to have been thrown away and had been there for some time. Police seized the pistol for destruction.
• Feb. 19, 12:41 p.m., 11900-block 83A Ave.: Police school liaison officer attended a nearby school for a 911 call from a student. The student had already left the school. The school was able to confirm that the student was at his home. The student then admitted to police that his father had discovered that he had charged $7,000 online buying games. Police spoke with the student about appropriate times to call 911.
• Feb. 19, 3:47 p.m., location withheld: Complainant reported that her mother had called her and told her to call 911 because someone was breaking into her residence. While en route, police were updated that it had actually been the mother’s husband who had come home unexpectedly. Police attended the address and confirmed it as a non-event and there were no issues.
• Feb. 19, 9:40 p.m., 7300-block 120th St.: Complainant reported that there was a male in a nearby business who was shouting at staff and customers. The complainant advised police that the male had left and that there was nothing physical or violent. Police attended the area and located a male nearby matching the description that was given. The male admitted to being in the business, and that he had been politely told to leave and had done so. The male was sent on his way with no issues.
• Feb. 20, 2:41 a.m., 11700-block 84A Ave.: Complainant reported a suspicious vehicle that had been observed running for 30 minutes with a female seated in the driver’s seat. Police attended and located the vehicle and identified the driver that was found in care and control of the vehicle. Police formed suspicion of possible intoxication and an approved screening device demand was read. The driver continued to delay providing a breath sample and was advised several times she needed to provide a sample. Police explained in detail the penalty of a refusal. The driver failed to provide a sample and an immediate 90-day roadside prohibition was given, and the vehicle was towed and impounded.
