• Jan. 12, 10:28 a.m., 120th Street and 97th Ave.: Police conducted a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle was determined to have an invalid driver’s licence. The driver had noticeable signs of impairment. A breath sample was provided which resulted in a warning. The driver was served a seven-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was subsequently towed. The driver opted to walk home.
• Jan. 14, 11:01 a.m., 3100-block Highway 17: Police were driving along Highway 17 in a marked 80 km/h zone. It was an extremely cold day with snow on either side of the road and icy conditions. The approximate temperature was -8 C. A vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed, estimated to be 130 km/h. A vehicle stop was initiated. The driver was charged with excessive speed and the vehicle was impounded.
• Jan. 14, 5:15 p.m., 11800-block 87th Ave.: A complainant reported receiving a phone call from an unknown male posing as a representative from Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). He advised her that she was being investigated for tax offences. She provided personal information to the scammer. The male also requested that she purchase a significant amount of gift cards. Police advised the female not to provide any personal information over the phone and to contact Equifax along with her bank to monitor her account.
• Jan. 15, North Delta: In the morning hours, police were busy dealing with road closures on Nordel Way, 72nd Avenue and 84th Avenue. There were several crashes as well as reports of vehicles off the road and abandoned throughout the day. Plenty of stranded motorists that needed a push from others, including the police.
• Jan. 15, 6:16 a.m., 72nd Avenue and Westview Drive: Police responded to numerous complaints of stalled vehicles in the above noted area due to the heavy snowfall. Police directed traffic for many hours, diverting vehicles and helping push vehicles eastbound up the hill. Police spent many hours on scene until the road was clear.
• Jan. 15, 10:12 p.m., Highway 17 and Highway 91: A semi-truck was driving along with highway when a gust of wind paired with the poor icy and snowy road conditions caused the driver to lose control. This resulted in the truck being jack-knifed into the ditch. As a result, the diesel and fuel tank were punctured, leaking into the ditch. There were no injuries and no further damage. Delta Fire, hazmat and the environmental team assisted with the spillage.
• Jan. 17, 12:17 p.m., 7100-block Brewster Dr.: A complaint was made to police to report a fraud. The complainant advised that he was alerted to an e-transfer that was sent from his account, something that he did not initiate. He also received a substantial deposit of money from an unknown source. Both transactions were reported to his banking institution for further investigation. Subsequent to the fraudulent withdrawals and deposits, the complainant ran a virus scan on his computer and believes a virus was downloaded on his computer which was logging his keystrokes, a possibility for scammers to have then obtained his online banking details.
• Jan. 17, 12:22 p.m., 9200-block 116th St.: A homeowner returned home from work and noticed items in his residence had been stolen. Police attended and were informed that a window screen had been torn and entry was made through a ground level window. Police advised homeowner to secure the window in the future.
