The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.
The following are some of the calls police responded to in the previous week:
• March 8, 2:08 p.m., 12000-block 70th Ave.: Police were conducting enforcement in the area specifically targeting impaired drivers. When police approached one vehicle, the driver immediately offered the officer a bank card. There was a distinct odour of liquor. The driver was administered the approved screening device, and a breath sample was taken which resulted in a “warn.” The driver was served a three-day immediate roadside prohibition.
• March 9, 10:01 a.m., 9200-block 117A St.: Complainant contacted police to report a theft from his storage shed which occurred sometime overnight. Investigation revealed that an unknown person(s) cut a lock to gain entry. Various items were stolen. Theft prevention strategies were discussed.
• March 9, 7:58 a.m., 7600-block 120th St.: While conducting proactive patrols in the area, police observed a vehicle driving well under the posted speed limit. A traffic stop was conducted. While the officer was speaking with the driver, a distinct odour of liquor was detected on the driver’s breath. The driver was administered the approved screening device, which resulted in a “fail.” The driver was served a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition. The vehicle was towed, and the driver opted to walk home.
• March 10, 8:54 a.m., 10400-block Dunlop Rd.: Complainant reported a theft from his trailer while it was parked in his driveway. The theft occurred sometime overnight. Various items were stolen from the trailer.
• March 13, 11:15 a.m., 12000-block 82nd Ave.: Police observed a driver using an electronic device while driving. A traffic stop was conducted. The driver produced a foreign driver’s licence, and additional queries revealed that the driver was in fact unlicensed. The driver’s vehicle was impounded and they were served a variety of violation tickets, including one for using an electronic device. The driver left the area on foot.
• March 13, 8:24 p.m., 11100-block 84th Ave.: A member of the public reported a truck that wasn’t able to stay in its lane. Police conducted patrols and located the suspected vehicle. The driver provided two breath samples, both of which resulted in a “fail.” The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was towed.
