North Delta crime beat: week of Nov. 11

A selection of property crimes submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department

The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.

The following are some of the calls Delta Police responded to in the previous week:

• Nov. 11, 12:16 a.m., 9000-block 116th St.: A vehicle stop was initiated after a vehicle failed to stay in its lane. Driver admitted to consumption of alcohol the night prior. Approved screening device demand was read and administered, with two samples resulting in a fail. Driver was served a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and left in a taxi. Vehicle was impounded and towed.

• Nov. 11, 10:37 a.m., 11700-block 88th Ave.: Complainant reported a theft from his Toyota Tacoma sometime overnight while it was parked in front of his residence. Smashed passenger side window was the point of entry, causing $300 damage. Stolen were various auxiliary cords, USB cords and a Wi-Fi adapter, along with various food items. Approximate total value of the theft was $100.

• Nov. 12, 3:45 p.m., 7000-block 120th St.: Reported theft of an Orange Trek Marlon bicycle from a bike rack. Complainant had locked the bike by the front wheel to the rack and was inside for roughly 1.5 hours. Upon returning, it was discovered that the frame had been removed from the front wheel, which was still chained to the rack. The bicycle is valued at $800, with a $10 GoPro mount attached to the frame.

• Nov. 12, 7:40 p.m., 1600-block Derwent Way: Police responded to a break-and-enter to a business. Stolen was an Apple iMac from the only unlocked office. Approximate value of the computer is $3,000.

• Nov. 13, 1:08 p.m., 11900-block Clark Dr.: Complainant reported he received an email from an unknown person requesting him to send $100 in Bitcoin or his personal information would be sent out. Complainant already changed all of his email accounts and confirmed his bank accounts were unaffected. Police determined the email was a “phishing” scam and no personal information was ever divulged.

• Nov. 13, 2:43 p.m., 1200-block Derwent Way: Police were called to assist Emergency Health Services as an employee had mistakenly sprayed himself with sewage waste. While emptying a sewage tank in the loading area, he forgot to seal the tank while attaching a hose, and unfortunately ended up wearing some of the product. He was transported to hospital to be medically cleared, and after examination was deemed physically unharmed.

• Nov. 14, 9:29 a.m., 6100-block Cottonwood St.: Report of ongoing thefts occurring in and around complainant’s property. In September, his Honda lawnmower was stolen when someone forced entry into the shed on his property. Value of mower approximately $600. Complainant advised other neighbours and contractors working in the area have had tools and items stolen as well.

• Nov. 14, 7:47 p.m., 7000-block 120th St.: Delta police received a report of an in-custody shoplifter. Shoplifter took approximately $150 worth of personal accessories, cosmetics and food in her pockets and a bag, and left the store without payment. Suspect was apprehended and taken into custody outside the store.

• Nov. 15, 12:21 p.m., 10900-block Kittson Pky.: Officer was conducting laser enforcement and pulled over a vehicle with a laser-confirmed speed of 100 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. Driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed, not having a driver’s licence and failing to secure a child in an approved restraint system. The vehicle was impounded for seven days.

• Nov. 15, 12:48 p.m., 10300-block Nordel Crt.: Complainant reported a vehicle had driven over the lawn and landscape islands in the parking lot. Police attended and observed the damage and the tire marks in the grass and pavement and it was apparent that a semi-truck/trailer had caused the damage. Damage estimated to be $3,000.

• Nov. 16, 2:17 p.m., 11800-block 80th Ave.: Report of break-in to a vehicle while it was parked at a family residence overnight. Complainant’s wallet was stolen and $90 worth of charges were made to his bank card.

• Nov. 17, 11:14 a.m., 11800-block 72nd Ave.: Complainant reported the theft of 200 tiles, valued at approximately $500, from the rear of his property.

• Nov. 17, 11:51 a.m., 11800-block 90th Ave.: Delta police responded to a late report of theft of scrap aluminum siding. Complainant observed two suspects removing the siding who, when questioned, claimed to have permission to remove the scrap. Complainant spoke to the homeowner, who said no such permission was granted.
