The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.
The following are some of the calls Delta Police responded to in the previous week:
• Nov. 18, 10:46 a.m., 8100-block 120th St.: Reported theft of a jacket, watches and shaver blades valued at $442 from a business. Loss prevention officer witnessed the theft and Delta police located suspect and an arrest was made. The property was returned.
• Nov. 18, 1:11 p.m., 11900-block 88th Ave.: Complainant reported her Chevrolet Silverado stolen from an unsecured parking lot. Vehicle had a half tank of gas, no alarm, all keys were accounted for and both plates were attached. The vehicle has since been recovered.
• Nov. 18, 9:01 p.m., 11900-block 88th Ave.: Reported dine-and-dash by a family of four. The family had a bill of $100 and left by vehicle.
• Nov. 20, 8:14 a.m., 7500-block 119A St.: Owner of a home reported their garage door was open. The residence was secured due to a fire in the garage. Police attended and discovered someone was living inside the garage and may have been lighting a fire to keep warm. Suspect was not present but the owner was advised to cover the door with plywood.
• Nov. 20, 1:00 p.m., 11500-block Lyon Rd.: Complainant was concerned over an email she received directing her to deposit money or her search history would be shared. Delta police met with her and reviewed the email. Complainant was concerned as the email had included her actual password in the narrative and stated her account had been hacked and all of her activity monitored. She was to transfer $804 in Bitcoin. Police showed the complainant how to query scams online, and showed her this was a known scam. No money was transferred but complainant was advised to change her password.
• Nov. 21, 11:01 p.m., 9500-block 120th St.: Complainant reported mischief to a restaurant. Beer bottles and cake was smeared on the windows of the establishment. Police attended and noted the damage to building.
• Nov. 22, 9:05 a.m., 11000-block Fuller Cres.: Complainant reported their vehicle was broken into while parked in their driveway overnight. Windows and doors were discovered open and exposed to weather. Vehicle had a club on the steering wheel and it was removed by sawing through the steering wheel, thus causing severe damage. Nothing obviously noted as missing.
• Nov. 22, 7:26 p.m., Huff Boulevard and Lyon Road: Police attended a two-vehicle motor vehicle incident with minimal damage and no injuries after complainant reported noticing the odour of alcohol when exchanging information. Approved screening device demand read was and one suitable sample was provided, resulting in a fail. A request for a second sample was refused. The driver was served a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impoundment. The vehicle was towed and the driver was transported home by police.
• Nov. 23, 1:32 p.m., 8700-block 120th St.: Report of purse and contents stolen while in a fast food establishment. Complainant realized she left her purse behind and when she returned the purse was gone. Complainant cancelled her debit and credit cards.
• Nov. 23, 7:08 p.m., 11300-block 77th Ave.: Complainant called to report the theft of an Amazon package from his front doorstep. Package was worth approximately $50 and compensation for the stolen item was provided by Amazon.
• Nov. 24, 1:10 p.m., 8000-block 113A St.: Reported break-and-enter overnight into a renter’s upstairs suite and all personal items were rummaged through. A jewelry box which contained a ring and $1,200 cash was taken. No signs of forced entry but possibly the entrance door that leads to an unoccupied downstairs suite was the point of entry. Landlord was in possession of both keys for the downstairs suite and was advised by police to change the locks.
