The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.
The following are some of the calls Delta Police responded to in the previous week:
• Oct. 1, 11600-block 86th Ave.: The complainant reported that they parked their vehicle in a lane behind their residence at approximately 7 p.m. on Sept. 28. On Sept. 29 at approximately 11:30 a.m., the complainant went to their vehicle and discovered it had been rummaged through. Items stolen were a garage door opener, glasses, chargers and approximately $10 in change, with no damage to the vehicle. The complainant was advised to change the code on their garage door to prevent it being used.
• Oct. 1, 800-block Belgrave Way: Complainant reported that between Sept. 29 at approximately 4 p.m. and Oct. 1 at 8 a.m., someone had stolen two tires off of one vehicle, and one tire off of another vehicle. Both vehicles were parked on the roadway.
• Oct. 1, 11700-block 80A Ave.: On Oct. 1 at approximately 12:30 a.m., the complainant went to the laundry room and discovered that the exterior door that leads to the carport had been forced open. Later, at around 12:30 p.m., the complainant located two unknown males in the backyard of the residence and confronted them. The men advised they were doing work for a construction site in the area and then left when asked more questions. The complainant then called the police as they had felt that the men on her property were the ones who had forced entry into the residence.
• Oct. 1, 11200-block 89th Ave.: Complainant reported that they observed their back patio door ajar and that it appeared someone had used a crow bar in an attempt to gain entry. However, the unknown suspect did not gain entry and nothing was stolen.
• Oct. 3, 1500-block Derwent Way: Complainant reported that an unknown suspect stole a battery from a truck parked at the rear of a commercial shop. Approximate value of the stolen item is $600.
• Oct. 5, 7900-block 120th St.: Complainant reported that their bike was stolen from outside a restaurant, and an unknown suspect was seen leaving the parking lot with it. The Garry Fisher mountain bike is valued at $800.
• Oct. 6, 7000-block 120th St.: Complainant reported that a theft occurred at 10:40 a.m., when an unknown male concealed two bottles of scotch and left without offering payment. Approximate value of theft is $200.
• Oct. 6, 11000-block 80th Ave.: Complainant reported that the driver’s side window of their vehicle was smashed sometime around midday, but nothing was noticed as stolen.
