The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.
The following are some of the calls Delta Police responded to in the previous week:
• Oct. 15, 11500-block 83rd Ave.: The complainant made a late report of an attempted break-and-enter at the building’s front entrance. When police attended the location, they were advised that staff had noticed that the door had been slightly damaged due to it being pushed in sometime over the weekend.
• Oct. 15, 11700-block 82nd Ave.: Complainant reported that their spouse’s vehicle was stolen from their driveway sometime overnight, with a car seat and stroller inside. Police later received a report of a car in the Fraser River stuck at the bottom of a boat launch. Queries of the vehicle resulted in the determination that it was the same vehicle stolen from the complainant’s driveway.
• Oct. 16, 9300-block 120th St.: Police responded to a break-and-enter, where the complainant stated that an unknown suspect smashed the front glass window to their business, gaining access to the cash register and stealing approximately $40 in cash.
• Oct. 17, 1500-block Cliveden Ave.: Complainant reported that sometime overnight a company vehicle was stolen from outside of the warehouse. The vehicle contained a generator, aluminum coral and scrap valued at $3,800. The vehicle was later recovered by the Richmond RCMP.
• Oct. 17, 10800-block 82nd Ave.: Two bikes were reported stolen to police: a blue mountain bike with Kenda Tires and a 2016 Norco Storm Mountain bike, light blue with tear on the back of the seat.
• Oct. 18, Eastbound Nordel Way from Highway 91: Complainant contacted police to advise a driver was smoking marijuana. Police attended and located the vehicle, conducing a traffic stop at 87A and 116th Street. The driver was determined not to be impaired and to be smoking from a vape, rather than marijuana.
• Oct. 19, 11300-block 83rd Ave.: Complainant reported that sometime overnight their vehicle was broken into while parked on the street outside of their house. It was believed that the complainant left their car unlocked as there was no damage to the vehicle. Stolen from the vehicle was a $20 iPhone charger, a $20 headphone charger and a vehicle valet key valued at $500.
• Oct. 19, 7900-block 120th St.: Delta police conducted a traffic stop around 7:45 p.m. after a vehicle was observed to be driving erratically, braking and then fast approaching slowing traffic. Police noted a strong odour of fresh cannabis from the vehicle. The driver performed poorly on the standard field sobriety test. He was given a 24-hour roadside suspension and his vehicle was impounded.
