North Delta crime beat, week of Oct. 18

A selection of property crimes submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department

The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.

The following are some of the calls police responded to in the previous week:

• Oct. 18, 9:01 a.m., 10500-block Delsom Cres.: Complainant called to report a theft from his unlocked vehicle overnight. Business payment and Versace sunglasses were taken.

• Oct. 18, 4:18 p.m., 8400-block 120th St.: Complainant reported two suspects illegally dumped property in their parking lot. Police obtained footage capturing two incidents, one where the same suspects placing a lamp near the garbage bins, and later a cardboard box full of items. Police issued the suspects two bylaw tickets for dumping or discarding materials on private property.

• Oct. 19, 7:27 p.m., 12200-block 68th Ave.: Delta police conducted a traffic stop to confirm driver sobriety. In conversation, a distinct odour of liquor was noticed emanating from the mouth area of the driver. The driver blew into the alcohol screening device, which read a “fail.” A second test resulted in another “fail.” The driver was served a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded.

• Oct. 21, 2:10 p.m., Highway 17: Delta police driving on Highway 17 westbound from the Highway 91 connector when they observed a vehicle changing lanes multiple times to pass other vehicles. Police followed the vehicle and estimated the speed at 140 km/h in the posted 80 km/h zone. Front radar locked the speed at 137 km/h. The driver indicated she was late for work. The driver was charged with an excessive speeding and given a notice of impoundment.

• Oct. 22, 11700-block 96th Ave.: Complainant reported that the catalytic converter from her vehicle was stolen sometime over the previous week. The complainant was unaware of when exactly the theft occurred.

• Oct. 23, 4:09 p.m., 8600-block 120th St.: Delta police conducted a traffic stop to confirm driver sobriety. A distinct odour of liquor was emanating from the mouth area of the driver. At 4:16 p.m. the approved screening device demand was read and accepted. The driver further stated: “I had a beer about a good hour and a half ago.” At 4:20 the test was done and resulted in a “fail,” which was shown to the driver. A right to request a second test was read and accepted. At 4:22 p.m. the second test was performed, which also resulted in a “fail” and was shown to the driver. A 90-day immediate roadside prohibition was served.
