The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.
The following are some of the calls police responded to in the previous week:
• Sept. 21, 12:06 p.m., 7800-block 115th St.: Complainant reported a fraud from his bank account where an unknown person e-transferred a total of $6,000.54 out of the complainant’s account. Police met with the complainant at his residence and observed four total transactions from his account to an unknown person. The bank was notified and is investigating.
• Sept. 21, between 8:30 p.m. and 7:10 a.m., 11100-block 85A Ave.: Complainant reported that an unknown person smashed the passenger side front window of her vehicle while it was parked in her driveway. She had left the vehicle locked but full of items in preparation for an early departure in the morning. Items stolen included a purse, work bag containing a laptop, work fob, $500 CAD and $500 USD, credit cards, bank cards, B.C. driver’s licence, B.C. Care Care, Nexus card, etc.
• Sept. 22, 7:49 a.m., 72nd Avenue and 120th Street: Police stopped a vehicle for inoperative brake lights. A further mechanical inspection found serious defects: inoperative brake system, inoperative brake lights, along with other defects. Notice and Order was placed on the vehicle. It was towed to the location of the driver’s choice. The licence plates were seized and returned to ICBC. A query of the driver indicates that he does not hold a current driver’s licence. He was issued a violation ticket.
• Sept. 22, 3:55 p.m., 11900-block 88th Ave.: Complainant reported an unknown family of four had left his restaurant without paying their $85 bill. The complainant advised that the female and two children exited the restaurant and headed to their vehicle while the male stayed in the restaurant for several minutes. Eventually the male exited and the family fled in the vehicle.
• Sept. 24, 1:06 p.m., location withheld: Complainant contacted police to report he had received a false email from someone posing as his boss, advising him to buy $4,000 in gaming gift cards for clients. He bought the gift cards and forwarded them electronically, before realizing it was a phony email address. The fraud was reported to the bank. Reported for awareness.
• Sept. 26, 8:15 p.m., Nordel Way at 116th Street: A driver turning left onto 116th struck another vehicle, causing it to spin out. A witness advised the vehicle travelling straight was speeding to beat the yellow light. No injuries, but significant damage was done to both vehicles.
